Lately I've been working my way through the book,
Walking The Bible: A Journey by Land through the Five Books of Moses by Bruce Feiler. I have it on CD so I just listen to it whenever I'm in my car. I'm about halfway through it. Anyway, it's really interesting. This guy is Jewish and from the US but doesn't feel any particular connection to his heritage or faith and doesn't really know if he believes the Bible. He takes a journey to the Middle East, meets up with a near stranger over there, and together they make their way through the first 5 books of the Bible (The Torah). He goes to where events in the Bible most likely happened and brings his bible and just really immerses himself in the the whole thing. It is really interesting to see the observations he makes and find out what he learns from actually being there, understanding the culture and the land, and earnestly trying to learn. So far it's definitely a recommended read for anyone wanting to "experience" the Old Testament in a more real way and understand it better without actually traveling there and doing it yourself. (which I kind of want to do now)
